Truman upgraded the Blackboard Learn course management system during December 2013 break.  This update brings new and improved features that produce a more effective workflow for instructors.  The following is an overview of changes:

Blackboard 9.1 Service Pack 13 Enhancements:

• Assessment Item Analysis provides statistics on overall test performance and individual test questions.  You can use this information to adjust credit on current attempts or refine new tests by evaluating the quality and validity of each question.  There are 3 locations to access item analysis within the assessment work-flow. It is available in the contextual menu for a test deployed in a content area, deployed test listed on the Tests page, and Grade Center column.

• Content Editor has been completely redesigned. There are now more text editing options, as well as more built-in support for copying and pasting from Microsoft Word. Blackboard has also replaced the old math editor with a new equation editor.

• Calendar Redesign now displays a consolidated view of all course events.  Calendar events are color coded by course.  When you create items with due dates, such as tests or assignments, the calendar event automatically appears on the course calendar for that day.  You can now drag an event to another date in the main calendar view to change the date of the event.

• Discussion Board Redesigned offering inline replies where the content editor window appears on the same page as the context of the discussion, display of all posts on a single page, and an optional requirement to force students to post before they can see other students' posts.

• Adding Questions to a Test:  Instructors may add questions to a test before or after any question by clicking the plus sign before or after another question and select the question type.

• Fill in the Blank Questions:  When creating a fill in the blank question, you can choose three different options for the correct answer: Contains, Exact Match, Pattern Match.

• Test Access Log provides detailed information on student test attempt interactions.  To access:  click on Grade Details in the cell of the individual, click on View Grade Details, click on View Attempts, click on the Test Information Drop Down.  Click on the Access Log button on the Attempts page of the test.

• Test Availability Exceptions/Feedback allow you to select one or more groups of students and make a number of exceptions to the already established availability settings.  You can use exceptions to provide an accommodation such as number of attempts, time of test and availability of test using start and end dates.  Instructors can also now decide whether to allow a student to take a test after the due date has passed.  Also, by setting up rules, you can set the release of progressive feedback to keep test results secure.  These additional options can be found under Edit the Test Options.

Blackboard Open Sessions Reminder

Open sessions are held by Sherry Dare and you can come any time during the open session and bring any topic of interest. Sherry also schedules one-on-one sessions by appointment. You can contact Sherry directly or email for one-on-one sessions. The open sessions are another opportunity to review any of the new features with Sherry.
